STEP THREE:

Erase Passivity. Your passion for your business is likely obvious to those who hear you speak about it. So then, what goes wrong in our writing when we feel we can't get the message across? Usually our words are passive, ultimately taking us nowhere, fast. Make your wordsDO something with these quick tips:

  • Use an 'ing'. For example: ”I love to hike!” becomes "I love hiking!”. Who would you choose to go on a hike with? See, it's all about doing.

  • Add more verbs. Speaking of things you DO, always add actions as often as appropriate. For another example: "We exceed expectations!” becomes "We work to exceed your expectations!” Guess who got the job?

  • Pair with adverbs. The sentence above would do even better with a verb-adverb duo. Add a qualifier and watch the magic happen: "We work diligently to exceed your expectations!” Now you're really stepping up to the plate and offering major benefits! Speaking of which…
